ALGERIA / Sale of the Média Temps Nouveaux group

The group Média Temps Nouveaux owned by businessman Ali Haddad is for sale. This was announced by the group’s managing director, Abrous Outoudert: “the size of the financial difficulties facing the company today calls for much more radical measures, such as finding a buyer.”

The group, which owns two newspapers, Le Temps d’Algérie and Wakt el Djazaïr, and two television channels, Dzaïr TV and Dzaïr News, saw its situation deteriorate after owner Ali Haddad was sent to prison in late March. His legal problems panicked the advertisers, causing considerable impact on the group’s finances.

As a first step to cope with these difficulties, Média Temps Nouveaux decided to merge its two television channels and create Dzaïr, broadcasting on the Dzaïr News frequencies. The merger happened on June 25th.
