On January 17th the Algerian Minister of Culture and the Arts, Soraya Mouloudji, and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, inaugurated a project called Cinéma de l’université.

The inauguration was held at the M’hamed Bougara University of Boumerdès, attended by representatives from the project’s main partner, the Centre National de la Cinématographie et de l’Audiovisuel (CNCA), university officials, teachers and students.

In his speech Mr. Mouloudji said the project will “encourage film in the university environment, while also giving students training through production workshops for short films, documentaries and other genres of film so they can participate in university film festivals.” The project, he went on to say, “is about motivating young talent.”

While strengthening the place of film in the country’s universities, the project also aims to “consolidate the values and principles of citizenship among students,” said Mr. Mouloudji.

During the same day one of the programmes included in the project, the Caravane cinématographique, was also inaugurated. This caravan will travel to the universities of Boumerdes, Bouira, Blida, Tipasa, Tizi-Ouzou, M’sila and Sétif offering screenings and discussions.
