Created in June 2025 (see our article), the programme to help female Algerian directors, Hiya, has just closed.
Supervised by director and screenwriter Yasmine Chouikh and organised by the Centre national du cinéma, the programme’s objective was to help five female directors bring their short film projects to fruition. The final 3-day phase took place from March 29th to 31st.
During the first two days there was a masterclass on managing and communicating film projects, as well as workshops on directing actors, staging and screenwriting. The last day allowed the directors to present their projects to a jury.
All five directors received individual mentoring, giving them the opportunity to meet producers. The goal of these meetings was to help them carry their projects forward to production.
