As the Amazigh New Year was being celebrated in Constantine, Ali Aissaoui began filming The Roché, a documentary about the city’s history.

Produced by the Malek Haddad Cultural Centre, this 52-minute documentary will retrace the history of this pre-Roman town built on a rocky plateau. Filming will take place in the heart of the city as well as in reconstructed caves within the Cultural Centre.

In order to involve the people living there the director launched an appeal asking them to share “objects, stories, testimonies or information about the way of life practised in the past in Constantine.” The director specifies that “the content of this documentary will be drawn from the experience of people living here.”
