The Commission algérienne has submitted Chakib Taleb-Bendiab’s Algiers for the 2025 Oscar nominations.
Co-produced by Algeria and Canada, Taleb-Bendiab’s film is about an investigation led by a psychologist, Dounia, and a police Inspector trying to find a little girl kidnapped during the Algerian civil war.
The film is Chakib Taleb-Bendiab’s first feature. Before that he directed several short films including Averroès, un lien civilisationnel (2011), Sang-froid (2013) and Black Spirit (2018).
The film premiered on September 28th in Algiers.
