Festival international du cinéma africain de Khouribga

The 24th Khouribga International Festival of African Film (FFICAK) will be held from May 11th to 18th.

Created in 1977 by the National Federation of Moroccan Film Clubs and the Khouribga Film Club, this year’s festival will screen 13 features from 11 African countries and 14 shorts.

In the feature film category, Mohamed El Samman’s Rat Hole (Egypt) shows the difficulties a young Egyptian woman experiences trying to earn a living. Also selected, Naoufel Berraoui’s Le Verre de l’amitié (Morocco) shows how the Years of Lead (1960-1980) weigh upon Ahmed, his wife and their friend Rachid. Among the other films presented: A toi Jeddi by Sara Ben-Saud (Tunisia) and Backstage by Afef Ben Mahmoud and Khalid Ben Kirane (Tunisia).

Each year there are 10 awards for the best films. This year’s jury is chaired by Egyptian director Hala Khalil.

In addition to the competitions, there is a category focussed on Mali, the festival’s guest country of honour. Accompanied by their directors, six films will be screened to the Moroccan audience.
