“Inhebbek Hédi”, a film by the Tunisian director Mohamed Ben Attia, has been chosen for the 66th International Berlin Film Festival which will take place between February 11th and 21st. Some twenty films from different countries will be screened.
The only North African film in the competition, “Hédi Inhebbek” marks the return of Arab films to the official selection for the Golden Bear after a 20 year absence! This Tunisian, Belgian and French co-production brings together actors Majd Mastoura, Rym Ben Messaoud, Sabah Bouzouita, Hakim Boumessoudi and Omnia Ben Ghali.
Synopsis: Hedi is an ordinary young man. Indifferent to everything around him, he muddles though life, letting his intrusive and authoritarian mother organise his wedding, while his supervisor at work and his brother tell him how to behave. But then he meets Rim, a young animator in a hotel. Intrigued by her care-free attitude and freedom, Hédi lets himself embark on a passionate love affair. Then he has to make a choice.
This romantic comedy is co-produced by Nomadis Images (Dorra Bouchoucha and Lina Chaabane), les films du fleuve (the Dardenne Brothers, Belgium) and Tanit Films, with financial support from the Centre national du cinéma et de l’image (CNCI). It will be screened on February 12th in front of a jury chaired by American actress Meryl Streep.
Created in 1951, the “Berlinale” is one of the three major international film festivals. Each year it brings together nearly 20,000 film professionals. The festival’s most prestigious award is the “Golden Bear”. In 2015, Jafar Panahi’s Iranian film “Taxi Tehran” won the first prize.
