The audience at the 36th Turin International Film Festival will have the privilege of being the first to view Nanni Moretti’s latest film, Santiago, Italia. It will be released in Italian cinemas a few days later, on December 6th. The Turin Festival is an event Moretti knows well, since he was its director from 2007 to 2008. This year’s edition will run from November 23rd to December 1st – appropriately closing with Moretti’s new documentary.

In Santiago, Italia, Nanni Moretti looks at General Pinochet’s coup d’etat in Chile on September 11th 1973 and Italy’s role in the country during that period. The film uses archive footage and eye-witness acounts. It shows the months which followed the Chilean general’s putsch, focussing on the role of the Italian embassy in Santiago which became a refuge for many anti-Pinochet protesters.
This film is co-produced by Sacher Film (Italy), Le Pacte (France), Storyboard Media (Chile) and Rai Cinema (Italy).
