The Turkish government is considering banning reality TV shows which feature dating encounters. Numan Kurtulmus, the Deputy Prime Minister, said these broadcasts were not in keeping with Turkish customs, traditions and beliefs.
Despite the popularity of these broadcasts, more than 10,000 complaints were registered by the Turkish Media Authority (RTÜK) in 2016. The Turkish Directorate of Religious Affairs, the Diyanet, has also criticized them, claiming they constitute a danger to family values.
