The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism has confirmed its support for the writing and production of short and animated films. 65 projects have already benefited from this fund, estimated at 1.8 million Turkish lira ($123,000). The list of projects is available here.
A committee of 8 ministerial staffers and film professionals selected the projects and distributed the grants. 957,000 lira, more than half the total, has helped 31 short films in production while 624,000 lira is helping 30 scripts in development and 215,000 lira is earmarked for 4 animated films.
In its press release the Ministry welcomes the increase in women writers and directors benefiting from this money. According to the announcement they represent 50% of the writing grants and 30% of the short film production grants.
The Ministry added that similar grant applications for feature films and documentaries will be considered very soon. This financial support is aimed at developing film creation and encouraging young people to take the first step in making audiovisual works.
