Kaouther Ben Hania, Tunisian director of Le Challat de Tunis (2013), Zaineb n’aime pas la neige (2016) and La Belle et la Meute (2017) is preparing a new feature film, L’Homme qui a vendu sa peau (The Man Who Sold His Skin). His crew travelled between locations in Tunisia, Belgium and the south of France.
Having dealt with the relations between men and women in his three previous films, this time Kaouther Ben Hania tells the story of one man, Sam Ali.
Sam is a Syrian refugee who fled to Lebanon to escape the war. In order to get to Paris, where he hopes to find the woman he adores, Ali agrees to have his back tattooed by one of the most prominent contemporary artists of the moment. But once the tattoo is on his back, his life changes. He is no longer just a man, but a recognized work of art – and suddenly marketable.
Yahya Mahayni (Opium, 2016), Monica Bellucci (Malena, 2000, La Passion du Christ, 2004) and Koen de Bouw (Menace sur la Maison Blanche, 2016) are some of the actors working together on this film.
It is produced by Tanit Films (France), Cinétéléfilms (Tunisia), Twenty Twenty Vision (Germany), Kwassa Films (Belgium) and Laika Film & Television (Sweden), in co-production with the Canadian Guillaume Rambourg, Metafora Production (Istanbul) and the Tunisian brothers Lassaad and Rafik Kilani.
Now in post-production, the film received support from Eurimages in March 2019.
