The second Manarat Festival, exclusively for Mediterranean films, is taking place from July 1st to 7th at the Tunis City of Culture – and on 10 beaches along the coast where there will be free open-air screenings for everyone, Les toiles de mer.
The Manarat festival was created in 2018, the initiative of Dora Bouchoucha, a producer, Chiraz Laatiri, the director of the Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image, and Sophie Renaud, director of the Institut français in Tunis. Mme Renaud announced this second festival at a press conference in Cannes in May.
There will be about twenty films on the programme, from twenty Mediterranean countries. Ten of them will compete for the Manar d’Or, while a dozen other films are in the panorama section. A third section will show recent Egyptian and Italian cinema. Discussions at the end of each screening will give audiences the chance to talk to the film’s director.
There will also be sessions for broadcasting professionals – producers, directors and actors – to discuss different aspects and means of film distribution.
