TUNISIA / A Tunisian drama doc about migrants is looking for funding

Tunisian Zied Ben Taleb and the German Margarete Luetke Twenhoeven have just completed shooting “Kannouta”, a 40-minute drama doc about migrants. The two directors have launched a crowd-funding campaign on the site GoGetFunding to finance post-production.

Kannouta” tries to understand the reasons why young Tunisians risk their lives on makeshift boats to enter Europe illegally. The film-makers asked several of them to tell their stories and explain why they want to leave. They also interviewed people who had attempted the crossing and failed, others who had returned to Tunisia, a father who lost his son at sea and a people smuggler.

The film intersperses these interviews with a fictional story about the everyday life of a young Tunisian until the moment he decides to leave the country.

The co-directors hope crowd-funding will raise €8,600 to finance the editing, composing a soundtrack and the subtitles.
