For the second year running, between June 27th and 30th, the City of Culture in Tunis is hosting the Arab Radio and Television Festival. This year’s event marks the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU), and is also the 20th festival of its kind.
The Festival’s role is to help develop Arab radio and television production and to improve the quality of the broadcasting content produced.
For this fiftieth anniversary the guest of honour is Palestine, which is organizing a cycle of documentary screenings and other events throughout the festival.
The festival is also organising several radio and television competitions for programmes and news broadcasts produced by ASBU members. There will also be parallel competitions for non-ASBU private television and radio institutions, Arab production companies, foreign news agencies and satellite channels. The jury is made up of independent media professionals.
During the festival, the latest radio and television productions will be presented; drama series, plays, documentaries, children’s programmes and other artistic productions. Public, private and foreign media companies broadcasting in Arabic, as well as production companies, can all participate in the Programme Market, presenting their artistic, media and cultural productions.
The programme also includes a series of seminars on technological developments in news gathering, with workshops on engineering and programming also on the menu.
