The first part of the first Film Festival Academy was held in Tunisia from April 6th to 10th, organized by the Tunisian Federation of Film Clubs, the Centre national de cinéma et de l’image and the Tunisian Film Library. These different organisations are part of a network of Tunisian film festivals working in partnership with the country’s Directorate-General for Cultural Action.
The “Film Festival Academy” has been created because there are more and more film festivals in Tunisia. Today the country boasts 350, of which three quarters are organized by amateur associations. The aim of the Academy is to develop the skills and increase the knowledge of those working in this sector (members of film clubs, people running maisons de culture, students in the audiovisual field etc.) to enable them to be more professional.
The project is based in four major towns: Tunis, Gabes, Gafsa and Hammamet, makingit possible to decentralize film events.
A 5-day training workshop will be held in each of the four towns. The participants will learn different aspects of organising a film festival: the legal aspect, supervising volunteers, financial management, communication, programming screenings, plus specific workshops on the history of the cinema and image analysis. Masterclasses with film-makers and festival directors are also planned.
