Beta Group, one of Europe’s leading independent film and television companies, has opened a new division in Spain, Beta Fiction. The Munich parent company produces, finances and distributes audiovisual works on a global scale. Beta Fiction is part of Beta Entertainment Spain, enlarging and strengthening the group’s well-established presence and position in that country.
Mercedes Gamero and Pablo Nogueroles have been appointed to head the new subsidiary, accompanied by Christian Gockel (responsible for all Beta Group’s activities in Spain) and Javier Perez de Silva (director of Beta Entertainment Spain). For Christian Gockel, this duo is “the perfect partnership for Beta’s next step: creating national and international content with the best Hispanic talent.”
For several years now this “Hispanic talent”, mentioned by Christian Gockel has been much in evidence. Of the 10 non-English programmes most viewed on Netflix, 8 are Spanish. Spanish films are also routinely selected in the competitive categories of major international festivals. Recently, Carla Simon’s film Alcarràs won the Golden Bear at the 72nd Berlinale. Before the creation of this new division, Beta Film, in partnership with Atresmedia, contributed to this success with series like Grand Hotel and Velvet. So Beta Fiction Spain will be following in the footsteps of these successes with future productions, whether for cinema, television or digital platforms.
