The creation of Valencia’s new regional public broadcaster has begun. The first step was taken by the broadcasting committee of the Corts Valencianes’ (Valencian parliament) when they approved the draft law to set up the group which will replace RTVV (Ràdio Televisió Valenciana), closed in 2013 for budgetary reasons.
The three political parties which voted in favour (the Partido Socialista Obrero Español, Compromís and Podemos) want the launch to happen on November 29th 2016, with priority given to RTVV’s former employees. The Ciudadanos party disagreed on this, so abstained during the vote, while the Partido Popular voted against.
The draft Act provides new controls to prevent a repetition of the budget disaster which broke RTVV. If the group’s budget fluctuates 10% from the one agreed or if revenues fall 25% below those forecast, the members of the Executive Board will have to resign.
Now we wait for the parliamentary plenary session in June or July to debate the draft law.
