In June the Institut Català de les Empreses Culturals (ICEC – Catalan Institute of Cultural Enterprises) launched a new funding system to stimulate international co-productions. They are looking for projects which have at least 40% of their budget provided by an international producer and another part covered by a Catalan partner. However the percentage covered by the Catalan partner is not subject to a minimum.
The Institut has a total of €1.2 million for drama, documentary or animation projects. However, the funding cannot exceed 60% of the total participation.
ICEC director Miquel Curanta explains that the scheme is to “start the process of consolidating our films in international markets.” With these grants he hopes to create a network of trust to help Catalan companies find regular partners for their up-coming projects.
