HBO Europe continues to develop its original Spanish content. The European subsidiary of the private American channel has commissioned a comedy series called Por H o por B from Spanish director Manuela Burló Moreno.
The series uses the same story and characters as Moreno’s short film Pipas, nominated for the Goyas in 2014.
Actresses Marta Martin and Saida Benzal again play the characters Hache and Belén. Brays Efe, Itziar Castro and Javier Bodalo are also in the cast.
The series takes place in Madrid, or more precisely in the trendy neighbourhood of Malasaña. It recounts the adventures of two young women who grew up together on the outskirts of the city and then, after a few years of not speaking to each other, find themselves living in this fashionable, well-heeled district, far from their roots. Through its two protagonists, Por H o por B deals with the need for belonging and the quest for identity.
Miguel Salvat, commissioning editor of HBO Spain’s original programmes, has praised the series’ scope, both universal and local. Composed of ten 30-minute episodes, it is produced by Lacoproductora and Globomedia.
