The Spanish Instituto de la Cinematografia y de las Artes Audiovisuales (ICAA) has published in the country’s Official Gazette its proposal for supporting feature-length film projects.
€12 million will be shared among independent production companies working on a screenplay for a film of “particular cinematographic, cultural or social value”, or on a documentary in development, a first film or a work of an experimental nature.
Support is capped at €800,000 per project, or €300,000 for co-productions with foreign companies in which the Spanish side has a minority involvement. Support can stretch to 70% of budget for projects with special financial requirements. Applications can be submitted on the Ministry of Culture and Sports’ website until April 22nd.
The grants will be distributed as percentages of the €12 million:
- 35% for projects directed by women
- between 15% and 25% for documentary projects
- at least 8% for animation projects
- a maximum of 10% for experimental projects
- a minimum of 5% for co-productions or those with foreign companies in which Spain is a minority.
Last year the Spanish government distributed €11,900,000 to the ICAA. 39 productions benefited from this grant.
