Senior telecommunications engineer David Valcarce, 62, a graduate of the Madrid Polytechnic University, has become CEO of Spain’s public broadcaster, RTVE. Having spent his entire career with them, he knows the group well. In particular he helped modernize and adapt the company to the needs of the new technologies. He also played a decisive role in developing the technical means to broadcast major events like the Olympic Games (several times), royal marriages, the proclamation of King Felipe VI and the Pope’s visits to Spain.
Since 1987 he has held various positions of responsibility within RTVE: Head and Coordinator of Technical Applications Projects, Deputy Director of Technical Production Means, and Director of the Media Division.
