SPAIN / 55 million euros for public broadcasting in Valencia

index

In 2016 the Consell de la Generalitat Valenciana will invest €26 million to complete the liquidation of Ràdio Televisió Valencia (RTVV), a process which began in late 2013. The amount appears in the annual budget submitted to the autonomous community’s parliament on October 30th.

Another €29 million will be invested in 2016 to create a new public broadcasting group. This new company, which the Generalitat will define over the coming months, will pick up the signal used by RTVV’s Channel 9 until it closed.

After 24 years broadcasting, the RTVV channels stopped transmitting once and for all on November 29th 2013. With 1,700 employees, the group was placed in liquidation with accumulated debts of over a billion euros.
