SLOVENIA / Filming “Corporation” in Ljubljana

Corporation

The young director Matej Nahtigal began shooting Corporation in Ljubljana on November 9th. Taking his inspiration from the neo-noir genre and in particular 1970’s thrillers, he has set this detective film in the Slovenian capital.

Nahtigal’s second feature is about a solitary police officer, Leon Gall, who decides to investigate, alone, a tie-up between private enterprise and government authorities to relocate people from their neighbourhood to make way for a large complex. The strength of citizens’ power, their fight against institutions, individual commitment are all themes explored in this film.

Corporation is co-scripted by Zoran Bencic, and is Nahtigal’s second collaboration with the lyricist and singer of the group Res Nullius. The Slovenian director’s first feature, Case: Osterberg, was based on a novel by Bencic, who also helped write the script. That film was about a man, Osterburg, returning to his home town after an absence of 4 years to investigate his younger brother’s death. As he discovers more about his sibling’s life, Osterburg becomes a pawn in a power game involving politicians, local mafia and helpless policemen. Released in 2015, Case: Osterberg received the International Federation of Film Critics Award at the 18th Slovenian Film Festival in Portorož.

For his second feature, Nahtigal has a grant of €460,000 from the Slovenian Film Centre. The film is produced by Lignit film (Slovenia), in co-production with Slovenian public television and the Croatian production company Jaako Dobra produkcija, founded by Sinisa Juricic. Expected release in 2019.
