ROMANIA / The Astra Film Festival announces its selection

Astra Film Festival

The Astra Film Festival has announced its selection for this year’s event, which runs from October 17th to 26th in Sibiu, Romania.

There will be five competitions, including a new category, DocShorts, with ten short documentaries. These will include Aitana by Marina Alberti (Spain), Beware of the Southern Stars by Christos Karteris (Greece), and Cosmonauts Like Chewing Gum by Aline Helmcke (Bulgaria).

The annual Romania Competition will screen ten feature films, one of which is Alexandru Mavrodineanu’s Love Hurts, which follows the healing and social reintegration of two men, each suffering from a major trauma in their love-life.

The festival also offers a section dedicated to a younger audience, Astra Film Junior. “Launched in 2009, Astra Film Junior is the largest Romanian programme for educational documentary films for children and adolescents,” states the organiser’s website. The aim is to offer films “which encourage children to think, feel and ask more questions.”
