Moroccan director Zineb Tamourt won Best Screenwriter for Riad de mes rêves at New Zealand’s RedWood Festival. Her short film is set in Casablanca at the end of the 1970’s: Hiba, 12, has always been passionate about the arts. Close to her home something called a cinema opens. Fascinated, she breaks her mother’s prohibition and enters this new place.
Ms Tamourt’s film has already been selected by several festivals, including Un poing c’est court (France) and Eurafriclap (France). In 2017, it received the Special Award at the Africlap Festival (France) and the Young Audience Award at the Salé International Festival of Women’s Films (Morocco). Riad de mes rêves is Zineb Tamourt’s first short film.
