MOROCCO / The winner of the 9th FIDADOC

Agadir

The 9th Agadir International Documentary Festival, organized by the Association de Culture par l’Education et l’Audiovisuel (ACEA), announced its three award-winners at a ceremony on May 13th in the town’s Hôtel de Ville.

Many of Agadir’s local politicians and cultural affairs officials were present, as were a delegation of councillors from the French town of Nantes. Also at the ceremony were the heads of the Agadir region’s major institutions and associations.

The jury (5 Moroccan and international film professionals) awarded the Grand Prix to Ousmane Samassekou’s Malian film, Les Héritiers de la Colline, a documentary highlighting the need to renew Mali’s universities which are prone to corruption.

The Special Award went to a Franco-Iranian co-production, Madame Saïdi, directed by Bijan Anquetil and Paul Costes, while the Human Rights Award went to Dil Leyla, a Turkish-German co-production directed by Asli Özarslan.

The Grand Prix given by 2M TV, FIDADOC’s official partner, went to Tala Hadid’s Tigmi N Igren. The Audience Award, chosen by film enthusiasts living in Agadir, went to Chilean director Maite Alberdi for her film Los Ninos. Finally, the Short Film Award went to Meryem Benheddi for her film Pour le meilleur et pour le pire (For better or for worse).
