MOROCCO / The 12th Cap Spartel International Film Festival in preparation

The Cap Spartel International Film Festival returns to Tangier for its 12th year, from April 22nd to 25th.

Organised by the Observatoire Marocain de l’Image et des Médias, the festival’s theme this year is cinema and cultural diversity. Spain will be the featured country.

The festival will offer a rich and varied programme of screenings, discussions and professional development workshops, all in partnership with Swiss and Spanish institutions.

During the festival a tribute will be paid to Moroccan producer/director Layla Triqui. She has produced and directed many drama and documentary films for television, several of which have won awards at the Cairo International Film Festival. In 2011 she collaborated with Egyptian director Ahmed Nour, co-producing the feature-length documentary Waves.

The organisers are planning a competition with nine films, with both drama and documentaries. The awards will be chosen by an international jury. There will also be six films in the panorama section. Overall, many countries will be represented, including Morocco, Spain, France, Iran, Azerbaijan, Italy, Switzerland, India, Syria and Tunisia.
