MOROCCO – SPAIN / Cannes Film Festival: filmed in Morocco, Sirat is chosen for the official competition

Sirat

Shot in Morocco, Olivier Laxe’ Franco-Spanish film Sirat has been selected for the official competition of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

The story is set in Morocco’s Jbel Saghro mountains where Louis, accompanied by his young son, is searching for his daughter who disappeared at an electronic music festival. Their search takes them across the southern Moroccan desert, visiting one rave after another.

Sirat is the fourth feature by Galician film-maker Olivier Laxe. A regular at the Cannes Film Festival, Laxe won the FIPRESCI Award at the Film-makers’ Fortnight in 2010 for his first film, Vous êtes tous des capitaines (You Are All Captains). His two follow-ups, Mimosas: La Voie d’Atlas (2016) and Viendra le Feu (2019), also won awards at previous Cannes Film Festivals.

Distributed in France by Pyramide Films, Sirat is scheduled for release in French cinemas on September 3rd.
