Since April 12th Medi 1 TV has been broadcasting “Notre Histoire, Notre fierté” (Our History, Our Pride) a new series on Moroccan history – the personalities and major periods which have marked and altered the country’s history. There are four episodes on each of the personalities chosen, and through them we discover Morocco’s historical heritage. The first four episodes were about Tariq Ibn Ziyad, the Umayyad army’s military strategist, played by the Moroccan star Mourad Zaoui.
Up-coming programmes will look at Sayyida al-Hurra, Abdeslam Ben Mchich, and Ahmad al-Mansur Ad-Dhahbi. The series is in Darija (Moroccan Arabic dialect) and aims to be both intergenerational and educational – a programme bringing together the whole family. To encourage viewers to go deeper into the subject, the channel has also created a website for the series, explaining Morocco’s history.
