Last week marked the start of filming for The Last Planet, Terrence Malick’s latest film. It’s a hectic time for the director of The Tree of Life – on December 11th he launches A Hidden Life in French cinemas, following its success at Cannes in May.
The production unit has been in Ouarzazate (Morocco) since November 5th and should be there until November 18th. The film’s leading actors are present: Ralph Fiennes (Harry Potter, Duchess), Matthias Shoenartz (Far From the Madding Crowd, Rust and Bone) and Aidan Turner (The Hobbit, Poldark).
Malick’s new film is about the life of Jesus, while also depicting some New Testament parables. Less a conventional biography than an introspective journey about Good and Evil – including several appearances by Satan.
This is not the first big-budget film to be made in Ouarzazate, over the years the province has hosted many production teams such as The Momie (1999), Gladiator (2000), Alexandre (2004) and more recently Game of Thrones.
