MOROCCO / A new law on the film industry

The reform of the Moroccan film industry and re-organisation of the CCM (Centre Cinématographique Marocain) became law on September 1st 2025.

In its press release, the CCM explains that the objectives of this law, No. 18.23, “are to strengthen Morocco’s attractiveness for national and foreign investment, create new job opportunities, comply with public service management principles and encourage competition within the film market.” It also aims to strengthen the influence “of Moroccan cinema both nationally and internationally, and create an advanced, distinctive economic model, specific to the film industry.”

All the law’s main articles were discussed by film industry professionals during a consultation week from January 29th to February 4th 2025. The aim is to adapt the existing rules to the changes in the film industry.
