On May 26th, the first day of Ramadan, the Saudi group Middle East Broadcasting Centre (MBC) broadcast the first episode of a series called Black Crows.

It re-creates the massacres committed within the Islamic State (Isis), denouncing their methods of action and organization. The series tries to show as truthfully as possible the daily life of Syrians and Iraqis under the yoke of the terrorist group. Mazen Hayek, spokesperson for the MBC group, said the series is based on real facts: “We wanted to reproduce real events which affect viewers and reflect the hideous face of terrorism.”

The new series is made in co-production with American producers and screenwriters. It cost $10 million and required 12 months’ research. Filmed mainly in the Lebanon with actors from different Arab countries, its 30 episodes are being aired throughout Ramadan. Black Crows has launched two years after a series called “Selfie” attracted nearly 120 million viewers across the Arab world. “Selfie” was a humorous take on social problems in Saudi Arabia, and the episode based on the Islamic State was a great success.

We believe Isis is an epidemic, we must muster our courage to confront this disease,” says Ali Jaber, director of the MBC television channels, explaining the choice of subject. “We believe the only way to fight this idea is to create another, better idea, more attractive and progressive.
