The Malta Film Commission has announced the launch of Creative Malta, a financing programme aimed at local producers. During the first phase €600,000 will be made available for selected projects.
There will be a call for projects which, to simplify the application procedure, will require less documentation at the first stage.
The Minister of Tourism, Clayton Bartolo, emphasised the benefits for the audiovisual sector: “We’ve listened to the sector and taken the necessary decisions to increase opportunities for local producers and also expose them to a global mindset. This is the mentality we’re pushing, so that the funds we’re investing in them result in success not just within our islands, but also internationally.”
Film Commissioner Johann Grech insisted that the Maltese film industry must be open to young talent: “I encourage anyone who wants to join the industry – especially the younger generation – to apply for the schemes available within Creative Malta, so that they can take another step towards their professional career.” The goal, he says, is “to create a world-class film industry in Malta.”
