MALTA / Cinema City will relaunch the island’s cultural life

From June 25th to 28th, Valletta’s Laparelli Gardens will be transformed into an open-air cinema as part of “Cinema City”. The event is organized by the Valletta Cultural Agency (VCA). The event is free. In consultation with the authorities, every health precaution will be taken.

Jason Micallef, president of the VCA, said the event is to help the city’s economic, social and cultural life. “As Valletta has been most affected, we are sending a strong message. We are designing and creating cultural activities which are the first of their kind in Valletta.” He added that “In the 1940’s and 1950’s, Valletta was well-known for its cinema. Today we are creating cinema in green and historic spaces.

Five films will be screened: Marc Forster’s World War Z, Paul Greengrass’ Captain Phillips, 13 Hours by Michael Bay, Michael Gracey’s The Greatest Showman and Jurassic World 2 by Juan Antonio Bayona. The first three films were chosen because some scenes were shot in Malta.
