LEBANON / 13th Samir Kassir Award for press freedom

On February 7th the European Union launched a candidate call for the Samir Kassir Award for Freedom of the Press. Candidates have until April 10th to submit their television or radio report or their written article to the Delegation of the European Union to the Lebanon (EUD). The award is split into three categories: best opinion piece, best investigative article and best broadcast news report.

Since it was created in 2006, the Samir Kassir Award has attracted more than 2,000 journalists from Arab countries. The chair of the Samir Kassir Foundation and the Ambassador of the EUD in the Lebanon have reiterated its importance in supporting press freedom. In their submission, applicants have to address one of the following themes: the rule of law, human rights, good governance, the fight against corruption, freedom of expression, democratic development or citizen participation.
