The Jordanian Royal Film Commission and UNESCO, with the support of the European Union, have announced that the five teams collaborating to make “Anthology Film: Women in the Maghreb – Mashreq Region” have completed production of their short films and are now starting post-production. The project is part of a programme to strengthen the film-makers’ abilities, encourage them and empower them.
Five stories, each from a different Arab country, were selected to make up the project. All the documentaries deal with the theme of gender equality and women’s empowerment in the Arab world. The films address the topics of domestic violence, physical violence and discrimination against women.
Each short film is funded by the programme, and supervised by mentors appointed by the Royal Film Commission. For this first project they are Jordanian director Mahmoud Massad and Jordanian producer Azza Hourani. They are guiding and advising the selected teams, from script to the final cut. They were also present during filming.
The five short films will be edited together as an anthology and presented as one feature. It will be screened in November 2019 and distributed at international, regional and local festivals.
