JORDAN / Amman’s first studio complex opens

Olivewood Film Studios

Olivewood Film Studios, Jordan’s first film studio complex, was inaugurated on September 26th, marking the 20th anniversary of the Jordan Royal Film Commission (RFC). King Abdullah II, Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein and Princess Rym al-Ali of the Jordanian royal family were all present at the opening.

The complex has two 1,500 m² soundstages and a 16-hectare backlot. There is an on-site canteen, parking for 95 cars and an area for technical vehicles – all 15 minutes from Amman.

At the inauguration, Raja Gargour (Executive Commissioner of the Royal Film Commission) said: “with the new studios and a 16-acre backlot, Jordan now has all the right components in place to service every international film-making need as well as giving local production companies the opportunity to produce their stories for the regional and international markets,”

To attract foreign productions, Jordan has expanded the rebate programme, allowing companies to recover up to 25% of local labour and supplier expenses.
