ITALY / Signature of two decrees supporting the film and audiovisual industries

On June 5th Dario Franceschini, the Italian Minister for Heritage, Cultural Activities and Tourism, signed two decrees supporting the film and audiovisual industries. Worth a total of €120 million, these measures are a new use of Italy’s Emergency Fund for Cinema and Entertainment created in March (the Cura Italia decree).

The first decree strengthens the Film and Audiovisual Fund by €100 million, making it possible for production and distribution companies to revive stalled projects to which they are committed financially.

The second decree is worth €20 million and is aimed at cinemas. A non-refundable contribution of €10,000 will be allocated to each cinema which requests it.

The Minister later declared that “The effects of the health crisis have had a considerable impact on all sectors of culture, starting with the film industry where the prolonged closure of cinemas and the interruption of productions and sets are still having a profound effect. The entire supply chain must be restarted and new investments made. These two decrees, which follow on from the various measures the government has already put in place to protect workers and businesses, constitute an important intervention to help the recovery.”
