On November 25th Milan hosted the 19th Eutelsat TV Awards, an annual event held by the European satellite operator Eutelsat.
This year awards were given to the best themed channels using Eutelsat’s satellite resources.
In the Lifestyle category Roya TV, a Jordanian private channel, was named Best Channel – the first award won by a Jordanian broadcaster in the history of the Eutelsat TV Awards, and also Roya TV’s first international award. “We are delighted with this prestigious award, which will motivate us to offer even better content in the future,” Roya TV’s founder and managing director, Fares Sayegh, declared.
Two Italian channels also won awards: Rai Sport 1 HD was named Best Sports Channel while Sky Arte won the Cultural Channel category.
France 24, the only French television channel to win anything, received Best News Channel, competing against BBC Persian (United Kingdom) and Ennahar TV News (Algeria). Marc Saikali, head of France 24, was in Milan to receive the award.
Apart from the Audience Award (won by a Senegalese channel), all the awards were decided by a jury of media professionals, chaired by Duilio Giammaria, a Rai journalist.
