L’Aquila, Italy’s 2026 European Capital of Culture, will host the 78th Italia Prize from September 28th to October 2nd under the patronage of the Italian President. Organised by RAI, this annual international competition selects the best radio, television and digital content productions. More than 100 broadcasters from about 90 countries are expected, confirming the importance of this event in the global audiovisual landscape.
For the first time the Italia Prize will be held in L’Aquila’s historic centre, with a programme combining preview screenings, professional meetings and official competitions. This choice underscores the city’s role as a centre of cultural renewal and dynamism.
Submissions are open until June 8th in the Radio & Podcast, Television and Digital categories. There are also three special awards: the President of the Republic Award, the Signis Award and the YLAB Award, given by students from universities and cultural institutions in Abruzzo.
The performing arts section is chaired by Corey Baker, an internationally renowned New Zealand choreographer and director.
With this 2026 edition the Italia Prize reaffirms its mission: to promote international audiovisual creation at the crossroads of culture and innovation.
