ITALY / Rai Movie promotes the David di Donatello Award

The 64th David di Donatello awards ceremony will be broadcast live on March 27th on Rai Movie, the Italian television channel dedicated to films. Organized by the Italian Film Academy, the award is for films released in Italian cinemas in 2018. The five feature films nominated in the Best Film category are Luca Guadagnino’s Call me by your name, Alice Rohrwacher’s Happy as Lazzaro, Valeria Golino’s Euforia, Matteo Garrone’s Dogman and On my Screen by Alessio Cremonini.

On the documentary side five films have been nominated for Best Documentary: Nanni Moretti’s Santiago, Italy, Stefano Savona’s Samouni Road, Wilma Labate’s Goodbye Saigon, Friedkin Uncut by Francesco Zippel and The Living Art of Julian Schnabel by Pappi Corsicato.

While we wait to discover this year’s winners, Rai Movie has scheduled a special season promoting Italian films. Throughout March viewers can watch every film which has won a David Di Donatello award — 87 in all.

Every Tuesday evening the Italian channel will show two award-winning films. On March 5th the season opens with Francesco Bruni’s Tutto quelle che vuoi, followed by Andrea Molaioli’s La fille du lac, which won 10 awards in 2008. Also on the programme, La tenerezza by Gianni Amelio, Nanni Moretti’s  Habemus Papam, Paolo Sorrentino’s Il Divo and Matteo Garrone’s Gomorra.

Around thirty other films will punctuate Rai Movie’s schedule, morning and afternoon, offering viewers an in-depth panorama of Italian film production over the last sixty years.
