Rai TV, in competition with Mediaset, has managed to keep the broadcasting rights and live broadcast exclusivity for the Coppa Italia, the national football competition, for the period 2018-2021.
The Italian public broadcasting group will pay 35.5 million euros a year – a 60% increase over the previous period. Rai Chief Executive Mario Orfeo said the Coppa Italia is a high-profile television programme which has been a huge success in previous years. Rai will also broadcast the UEFA Champions League and Italy’s National Team matches, for which it has exclusivity until 2022.
