ITALY / Rai completely HD by the end of 2016

According the daily newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, RAI plans to have all 14 of its channels transmitting in HD by the end of the year.

Rai 1, Rai 2, Rai 3, Rai 4 and Rai Sport 1 are already available in HD via Tivùsat, a satellite TV platform. As of May, Rai Movie and Rai Premium will also move into high definition, while the group’s other 7 channels will be ready by the second half of 2016.

In addition, Rai will create a dedicated channel for the European Football Championship from June 10^th to July 10^th, broadcasting 7 matches in Ultra HD (4K resolution). In 2017 the experiment will be extended, with a permanent schedule in Ultra HD.
