HBO American Pay TV channel, which produces many series, is making a co-production with RAI and Wildside – an adaptation of a novel by Elena Ferrante about two young Neapolitans in the 1950’s. It will be the first series produced by HBO in a language other than English.
It is directed by the Italian Saverio Costanzo, with mainly unknown actors and amateurs found in the streets of Naples. It will be entirely shot in Italian and in the Neapolitan dialect. The first two episodes were screened at the Venice Film Festival on Sunday September 9th.
Although it is HBO’s first foreign-language series, it won’t be the last: the channel has already launched projects for series in Israel and Spain.
