ITALY / Documentaries enter into Palomar

Palomar

Palomar, founded in 1986, is an Italian television and film company, one of the largest in the country thanks to the successful films it has produced (Inspector Montalbano, The Name of the Rose, Leopardi, etc.). Since 2019 it has been a partner of the French group Mediawan. To broaden the company’s base, Mediawan’s founder, Carlo Deglie Esposti, has announced a new division within the company: Palomar Doc.

This branch of Palomar will be for documentary development and production, offering films and series made by Italian and European directors. These documentaries will either be distributed in cinemas or directly on streaming platforms. Palomar Doc is scheduled to go into service in March.

The producer will be Andrea Romeo, a journalist, film critic and creator of the Italian documentary festival Biografilm. Romeo already has managed a distribution company, I Wonder Pictures, which sold films like Malik Bendjelloul’s Sugar Man and Laura Poitras’ Citizenfour to Italian television.
