On September 26th, Marcello Foa was appointed the new chairman of RAI, the Italian public broadcaster. The decision was made by the parliamentary committee supervising the group after the government intervened. An Italian-Swiss journalist, Foa succeeds Monica Maggioni at the head of Italian public broadcasting.
A graduate in political science, Marcello Foa began his career in 1984 at the Swiss Gazzetta Ticinese. Five years later he joined Berlusconi’s newspaper Il Giornale, becoming head of the foreign service. In 2011 he left to run the Swiss press group Timedia Holding SA and Corriere del Ticino a Swiss-Italian daily newspaper.
Marcello Foa said he will “guarantee pluralism” within the Italian public broadcaster.
