GREECE / Considerable subsidies for the broadcasting sector

The Greek government, jointly through the National Centre of Audiovisual Media and Communication (NCAMC) and the Ministry for Digital Policy, has decided to instigate a major reform of the broadcasting sector. Legislative reforms have been adopted to develop the sector, making substantial grants available for Greek production companies or foreign film companies with a branch in Greece.

The grants will reimburse up to 25% of eligible production costs, if those costs are incurred in Greece, with a minimum of €100,000 and a maximum cash rebate of €5 million. The NCAMC has also promised that their decisions will be “smooth and fast”, announced within 45 days of an application being submitted. The idea is to develop the country’s entire film and broadcasting sector, whether for fiction films or documentaries, television programmes or video games.
