Since March 1st the fourth edition of the ePOP video competition has been open. The Petites Ondes Participatives (ePOP) have been organised jointly by RFI Planète Radio and IRD since 2017, bringing together hundreds of young volunteers from nearly forty countries to compare climate and environmental issues.
Sponsored by Grand Corps Malade, this year’s competition invites young people to make a 3-minute video on the theme “Let us see how they feel”. Using their mobile phones, participants must “collect interviews with people confronted by the impacts of climate and environmental change every day.” More than 600 videos have already been produced since the first edition.
The competition has four awards: the ePOP Grand Prix, the Young Director Award, the RFI Clubs Award and the ePOP Jury Award. The winners will take away production or equipment grants worth €1,000 to €4,500 and will also be able to see their creation shown in the media and at festivals. As indicated in the press release, they will also be able to participate “in local and international public discussions to make their country’s voice heard on climate and environmental changes.” The awards will be decided by four juries made up of journalists, scientists, artists and project leaders.
Apart from this competition, the ePOP project participates in conferences, analysis and other initiatives related to environmental issues. As the press release states, “the ePOP project talks to the scientific community, to people working in development and to decision-makers about the issues involved – at local and international public meetings. (United Nations conferences on climate change, for example).”
Registration is open until May 1st 2022.
