Fipadoc, the International Documentary Festival in Biarritz, will be held in 6 venues in the city between January 22nd and 27th. It succeeds FIPA, a festival created in 1987 focussing on international audiovisual production. Christine Camdessus is the director of this new event. specialising in documentaries. Among other things, she created the documentary production company Alegria in 2001.
The festival is a high point in the international documentary landscape. More than 100 films have been chosen, covering all forms of documentary: short, medium, feature length, documentary series, virtual reality. Fipadoc has 3 competitive categories, 7 non-competitive categories presenting a wide variety of themes, and 5 special awards.
On January 23rd 24th and 25th there will be professional days, in partnership with INA, Docs Barcelona and Medimed. They will feature pitch sessions, conferences and round tables. Special attention is given to digital works in the “digital experiences” category, intended mainly for professionals but part of which is also open to the general public. The programme’s main aim is to give insights into the new forms of documentary narration, helping viewers appreciate them better.
Worth noting also, the Basque festival’s commitment to image education, through various events with young audiences. The Campus programme showcases emerging talents with its selection of school films.
