Director Elia Suleiman was present at the screening of his new film It Must Be Heaven at the Beau Regard cinema in Paris on October 7th as part of the Monde Festival.
The film received a Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
Elia Suleiman fled Palestine in search of a new home, before realizing that his country of origin follows him like a shadow. The promise of a new life quickly becomes a comedy of the absurd. Wherever as he travels, from Paris to New York, something always reminds him of his homeland.
Both nostalgic and burlesque, the film poses questions about belonging to a country or region, at a time when borders are confused and where the individual no longer knows how to define the word “citizen”. A hot topic of the day.
